Michelle received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Illinois State Univeristy and her Juris Doctorate degree from Northern Illinois University’s College of Law. She is presently a partner in the law firm of Nelson, Kilgus, Richey, Huffman & Buckwalter-Schurman.

Michelle's Republican involvement began at the college level, as a member of the Illinois State University College Republicans. She has  coordinated Whiteside County campaigns for regional and state candidates, and has served as the parliamentarian and scholarship committee chair for Carroll County Republican Women. She is also Secretary-Elect for the CCRW.
